How to learn English : Super Pages to Learn and Teach English
Recently, Facebook has reached 1 million users. Some people take a look at the most important newsfeeds only once a day while others live all their days in “Facebook-land”. Yes, Facebook is actually an enormous land.
The question is how you – as a student of English – can use all these contacts and companies to your own benefit? How can you learn English on Facebook?
This is how:
Read in ENGLISH! If you are hanging out on Facebook anyway, why not to read news and stories about companies? Like the BBC or CNN page or pages of companies that you like reading about or who offer interesting information. For example if you work in marketing, you should ‘like’ international pages dealing with marketing. If you are a mum, ‘like’ the pages about motherhood and children.
Next…
Become an Avid Chat User! Facebook is actually one big forum where you can leave comments and chat – not only in your language but also in English. Make use of this!
Now that you have “liked” some pages, start reading the posts and always leave comments, giving your opinion about them. Then follow the post as probably many other users will reply you. If every day you read one or two articles that interest you and leave a comment, within 2 months you’ll see that you understand the English text almost perfectly and communication has become a lot easier.
I can’t tell you which pages to ‘like’ within specific topic areas because I don’t know what interests you (but if you write it in a comments below at the end of this post, I’ll help you to find some cool Facebook pages).
But I can tell you about the 14 pages dealing with English teaching and learning that you MUST like because they will help you.
Here is a great group for language exchange! :) if you want to practice or teach your language join this group, it will be in class online and for free :)
2. page facebook : English Club (language exchange)
2. page facebook : English Club (language exchange)
It’s our own Facebook page where we share useful and funny posts for example, multiple choice tests, tips to learning English, unique pictures with questions and the best jokes.
to watch our previous Classes
as i said , you need to join the LANGUAGE EXCHANGE group in the first time , then to join the english event , you must have a google account , because the class will be online in the google hangout .

English Grammar Lesson: Non-Progressive Verbs
I used the verb write in its progressive form (with the be verb) because I am writing now. We use verbs in the progressive form when we talk about actions that are happening right now. Here are some other examples:
- I’m working until 10pm tonight.
- Jack’s sister is staying at his house this week.
- Jane is listening to music while doing her homework.
Most present actions are described using the progressive form. However there are several kinds of verbs that are not used in the progressive, even if we are talking about right now. Today, I want to show you this English grammar and give you some example sentences.
First of all, there are verbs that show mental states (such as believe, know, remember, want, etc):
- I believe this is the correct answer. Not, I am believing ~
- I know how to fix that computer problem.
- Yes, I remember what he asked me.
- I want to have pizza for lunch.
Next, there are verbs that show emotions (such as love, like, hate, prefer, etc)
- I love pizza. I’m sure you already knew that!
- Bob said he likes his new job.
- I prefer coffee to tea.
Third, there are verbs of the senses. These verbs (feel, hear, see, smell, sound, & taste) are not used in the progressive when they refer to the action of the senses. Generally, the subject of the sentence is the thing being described:
- This cup feels hot.
- Does this milk smell right to you?
- That music sounds so relaxing.
- The cheesecake she made tastes great.
Lastly, there are some special cases that you need to remember:
- Have is not used in the progressive when it means possession or ownership, but it is used in the progressive in other meanings (like experience) or in certain collocations:
- I have an iPhone, but my sister has an Android.
- Everyone is having a great time at the party!
- Jane is having a baby!
- Feel can be used in the progressive when it describes using your fingers to check something:
- I am feeling this glass carefully for cracks or chips.
- Think is not used in the progressive when it means opinion but it is used in the progressive when it means using one’s brain. Compare these two sentences:
- I think studying English is a good way to expand cross-cultural communication.
- I am thinking about the answer to this math problem, but I can’t figure it out.
- Look is not used in the progressive when it means seem but it is used in the progressive when it means using one’s eyes. Compare these two sentences:
- That cake looks delicious!
- Why are you looking at me that way?
- Weigh and measure are not used in the progressive when we describe the weight or length of something, but they are used in the progressive when we describe the action of weighing or measuring:
- I am weighing the coffee to see how much is in the bag. It weighs 5 pounds.
- Jack is measuring the table. He says it measures three meters long.
Well, that’s a lot of English rules! I hope you don’t feel too tired. How about using the comment box below and writing some original sentences using this grammar. I’ll check them for you!

The simplest explanation is:
This is a common mistake for students learning English (and sometimes native speakers too!).
The simplest explanation is:

A bit more detail…

Vocabulary : Adventure - Convention - Inconvenient - Prevent - Intervene - Eventually
Meriem wanted to
go on an adventure
So she decided to go to a comic book
convention But the driving there is inconvenient ,
so she took the subway .As she sat down people began
to argue about the hero , to prevent a fight She intervened and eventually everyone agreed that the best hero is batman .
vent / veni means come
- Adventure : as we noticed before that vent means to come so we’ll point out what does the prefix ad mean.
AD= toward . That’s adventure means to come to something , (in this context when I say I want an adventure means that I want to come to something to make life better or exciting) .
- Convention: con means with / together.
Convention means a place where people come together.
- Inconvenient : The prefix in has a couple of meanings : in / opposite
Inconvenient = it is going to be more difficult or makes life harder.
Ex: If I have to go to work it is inconvenient to go walking it takes 3 hours. ( so I should take a car that takes 20 or 30 minutes.)
- Prevent = pre means before / vent means come ( to come before)
If you want to prevent a fire you shall put oil and fire together .
- Intervene = inter means between ( it means to come between).
Ex : if you find Meriem and Seif quarreled you can intervene .
- Eventually: E ( which is basically ex ) = out of . so it refers to come out of a situation
Ex: When you eat a big quantity of chocolate, you’ll eventually be fat.
If you don’t read enough books in English , you’ll eventually be out of blue.
